Michael Maves
From Uwphitau
Introduction
Mike Maves is one of the oldest active brothers in the house, hailing from Beta Class which joined the fraternity in Fall of 2005. Once a simple, naive freshman, Mike has evolved into a mature, passionate, and well-spoken individual.
Background
Mike was born in raised in Portland, Oregon and attended Beaverton High School, where graduated with an International Baccalaureate degree and a weighted 4.26 GPA. He was involved in a number of activities, which included chairing a state Model UN committee, running a Mock Presidential Convention, and captaining his school's debate team. He also was co-captain of his school's golf team, which nearly made it to the state tournament his senior year. While not the most socially apt person in the halls, he did enjoy his time there and became extremely excited to attend the University of Washington upon graduation.
Leadership
Mike has held many different offices and positions in the house. Most notably are the following positions:
2006: Recruitment Chairman
Mike, along with Joe Sanders and Michael Curtis, were the Recruitment team that saw the first big expansion of the house since the founding group of Alpha's were formed back in 2003-2004.
2007: Membership Orientation Officer
Following a successful fall as Recruitment Chairman, Mike had the privilege of being the Membership Orientation Officer for the class that he recruited. This class (Epsilon Class) was the first class to have a 100% passage rate on the National Exam on their first attempt.
2008: Vice President
Mike was elected Vice-President for the 2008 term. So far his duties have consisted of organizing West Coast Road Trip, which takes place from March 26th through March 30th, and creating an outline for a Brother of the Year program. As the Vice-President, he is also responsible for organizing committees, running the Executive Council meetings, and putting Greek Week together. More to come later...
