Dodgeball
From Uwphitau
One of the two official sports of the Alpha Pi Chapter.
History
In the fall of 2004, Alpha Pi competed in an IFC-sponsored Dodgeball tournament. Although losing in the first round, an obsession began. Video evidence of this event courtesy of Luke Amundson documents the energy and excitement created from this expedition.
Soon, Dodgeball would become a house obsession. Dressed in Emer'gen-C shirts, bicycle shorts, and every now and then, an adult diaper, Phi Tau's played whenever possible, no matter the weather. The matches would often draw spectators, and the noise could be heard throughout the Greek System. The Street Cred gained was tangible, as the Phi Tau's were once dubbed "Dodgeball Gurus" by their neighbors, Alpha Delta Pi. Blue Team soon ascended to Dodgeball Greatness, and became the Undesputed Dodgeball Champions of all Time.
In the spring of 2006, Phi Kappa Tau participated in Greek Weekend. The first night, after watching an episode of Family Guy, the Phi Tau's ran out to their front yard and played the game they love. The chanting and yelling attracted the attention of two on-duty IFC officers, who came to investigate. After receiving much encouragement, the IFC officers joined the game. After the officers left, play continued on into the night. Soon, the police arrived. A neighbor had called them, complaining about the noise. Although the Phi Tau's were let off with a warning, Dodgeball was done for that night and the festivities moved inside. The rest of Greek Weekend went by smoothly. The following Monday, the Phi Tau's received a report from the IFC.
They were the only fraternity to receive a noise complaint that night.
Today
Currently, Dodgeball has become a weekly event. Every Thursday night, Phi Tau's head to the Loyal Heights Community Center and compete fiercly. It is Phi Tau's number one recruiting tool. It also has a good reputation for breaking people.
Notable Injuries
- Tyler Kamstra, a recruit at the time, nearly broke his arm in a game
