Proposed: 2008-02-25
Ratified: 2008-03-03

Amendment to The Bylaws 5-7 is a bylaw change ratified March 3, 2008 that creates numbering systems for amendments and versions of The Bylaws, as well as requires the maintenance of additional meta-data about The Bylaws. It is a combination of Eric Olson's compulsion for standardizing "best-practices", and the numbering systems informally being used by Tim Shigeta.

Abstract

Amendment 5-7 formalizes numbering conventions for bylaw versions and amendment numbering, adds a changelog, and adds a reference to the bylaws directly preceding the current version.

Amendment

“Whereas there currently exists no formal system for organization and maintenance of The Bylaws;

and, Whereas there exists missing data and considerable confusion regarding past versions of The Bylaws;

Therefore be it resolved by the Alpha Pi Chapter of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity that Article 'XVII - Maintenance of the Bylaws' be created containing the following sections:

  • I. A version number shall be maintained, with full revisions constituting the first digit, major revisions constituting the second digit, and minor changes constituting the third digit. The version number shall be listed in the heading of The Bylaws. The distinction between full, major, and minor revisions is at the discretion of the Sergeant-at-Arms.
  • II. The Bylaws shall also include in its heading the number of the version directly preceding the current version.
  • III. Amendments to The Bylaws are to be ordered by a two digit number seperated by a dash. The first digit denotes the current session, defined as the period from one full election to the next. The second digit is sequential number of the amendment within that session.
  • IV. A changelog shall be maintained in the same document as The Bylaws, ordered by descending version number with each entry containing the amendment numbers and abstracts or brief descriptions of their changes, and the dates of their resolution.”
